Focus

I've been spread too thin. I've had too many projects and demands on my time. The resulting lack of focus and intensity works against me. So I've eliminated what I could and cut back on the rest.
I'm focused on 4 projects right now. And only 4, as best I can, for now.
1. Employment, both current and new.
2. Tech training.
3. The debt snowball.
4. One relationship in particular.
Focus has magic in it, as it were.

Circumstances

I've come across so many people in so much worse circumstances than me lately. Grateful for His kindness to me; reverent.

Money.

If I had much more money and it hindered my affections for God, I'm not sure I could give away the cash.

Grateful.
Also stretching out my hand toward both authenticity and honesty with myself. Towards wisdom as well, I pray.

Julia Roberts on Tom Hanks

"Tom can walk into any room and make you feel like you're in your living room, truly. Make you feel comfortable, make you feel like you have something interesting to contribute, make you feel like there's a reason you're on the planet. And that's a true gift. That isn't acting, and isn't, you know, dinner-party games; it's heart and it's compassion and it's soul. And he has that..."

Lao-Tzu on the master of the art of living

"The master of the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him, he is always doing both."

To start out the New Year...

I did something a little different this year. Instead of mostly partying, I did some valuable and satisfying thinking (and a good little bit of partying). I started with this 30min clip, We become what we think about with Earl Nightingale. It talks about just that, we become what we think about. So I started there. And then, as it indicates, I thought about what I was thinking about, and therefore, becoming. I realized that for the past couple years I had been thinking about doing nothing. Purposefully as ever. And here I am. Doing nothing. What I sowed in the garden of my mind, I reaped. So I then started thinking about what I'd be just thrilled to see happen in the coming year. Some unrealistic ideas, some realistic and some reeedicilous things. But all things I'd just be thrilled to see happen. It was great fun to think about. And following close on the heels of that little project, as you can imagine, I began to think about what my practical goals should be for the year or month or today. The first thing I immediately put down was to somehow create a collage for my desktop that expressed and commemorated what I was most thrilled to see in the coming year. I would see them every day and would be kept in the eye of my mind daily. I started searching for pictures and collecting them into a folder. And then, hey look, Picasa (my pic manager for Windows) has a two click collage feature that posts to desktop. Joy ensued. And just that quickly, my first goal was accomplished. Happy New Year!

The Atlas of True Country Names (PICS)

Etymologists and wordsmiths will take particular interest in a new set of maps going on sale in time for Christmas. The Atlas of True Names replaces the traditional names of the world's cities, countries, rivers and mountains with new ones to reflect their origins and literal meaning.
